Mosquito Samples Confirmed Positive for West Nile Virus

Two new mosquito samples were tested and confirmed positive on September 18 for West Nile Virus. The samples were collected from Hamilton Township and Mullica Township. Previous positive mosquito samples were collected from Somers Point, Northfield, and Hammonton.

Atlantic County health officials continue to urge residents to take measures to protect themselves from mosquito-borne illness by reducing their exposure to mosquito bites.

West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquito samples in 19 counties, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.

Atlantic County is also reporting increased Eastern Equine Encephalitis activity in mosquito samples, detected in 61 mosquito samples in 11 New Jersey counties. The state has indicated that this is the highest number of positive samples reported at this point in the season for the past seven years.
